Mommy and Dono

Just a couple pictures of me and my little guy. Keep in mind I am still recouping from my 3rd (and final?) bout of the stomach bug this pregnancy, hence the beauty level you see in me.

Man I love that little dude.

A Slave to his craft

This is how Donovan wanted to watch home video's of himself playing hockey tonight.

He insisted on keeping the helmet on while he was eating his goldfish. It took him a few seconds to figure out he had to lift the cage up every time but once he figured it out he was a happy man.
That's my special boy!

Thank you note

I was going to send someone a thank you note with some pictures but after taking the pictures I decided they were too cute not to share with everyone. So now everyone gets to see my digital thank you note. Here goes:

Dear Aunt Sandy, Uncle Ed and Cousin Alex:

Thank you so much for the recent package for Donovan. We love the kid size hockey gloves and helmet! He has a little while to grow in them but we are having a great time playing with them already. Donovan loves to put the helmet on and then say "Aaachooo!" and pretend to sneeze and try to knock the helmet off. It is heavier than the usual things he tries to sneeze off his head but it is fun none-the-less. We also want to thank you for the Theodore the tugboat boats that you gave us a while back. We put them in storage after you gave them to us until he was old enough and we were in need of some new toys. A couple days ago that was the case so we broke them out and he loves them too! He loves to play with the submarine especially. I told him it was "Squishy" and now he laughs and says "squik-eee" all the time when he wants to play with the boats. We owe you lots of thanks for all the fun stuff you have sent to us or given to us. It has kept us all quite busy and happy. Hope you enjoy the pictures. We had a photo shoot tonight just so you could see how happy his new hockey stuff made him. Thanks for always thinking of us!

Love, Ellen, Tom and Donovan

Tippy Toes

This video is from about a month ago but I just love it and I thought it might make those who love kids on tippy toes smile too.

Yucky

Well it was bound to happen eventually. After almost 22 months, Donovan finally christened his bath tub. Tom had bath duty last night and discovered the "yucky" after one floated out from underneath a toy. I guess that is what happens when you do bath time directly after little man eats a hearty dinner. Oh well, no harm, no foul...just a shortened bath.

The perp. "Who me? What'd I do?"

Guilty as charged.

Checking out the damage. Them rocks at the bottom of the bath... well them ain't rocks.

Donovan kept pointing and saying "Yucky". Yes, we are aware, thank you very much.

Zoo day

Today's high temps were in the mid to upper 50s so we planned a zoo day with some of our friends and their chilrens. It felt great to get out of the house and enjoy the day outside. And since we have to schedule our day around naps, we got to the zoo early enough to beat the rush we saw as we were heading home. Donovan's favorite part was playing in the children's zoo where he got to pet goats, guinea pigs, play in a car, a boat and a fake kitchen as well as in a sand play table. We spent at least 45 min running all around in there and it was great. His other favorite part was that he got to hang out with his main man, his BFF, "N", otherwise known as Ian. Donovan was giving Ian so many hugs at the end of our day in the monkey house, it was adorable. All the way up until poor Ian got a minor head injury from the tackle ending of one hug. Donovan also got to see cute girls, Aubrey and Abbey but he was on his best gentlemanly behavior when he gave them their goodbye hugs. All in all a great day full of great weather, great friends, and great behavior by Mr. Donovan.

Donovan petting the goat. He thought it was "Foff" (Soft).

Just two dudes going for a ride. (I think they were cruising for chicks)

Zoning out as he was petting the guinea pigs.

Giving the guinea pigs a hug.

Driving the boat.

No pictures of us in the "Raff" (giraffe) house, only a pic of the giraffe. It was both quite stinky and impressive as the giraffes were so much bigger that close up. Donovan was equally impressed with both facts and would take turns repeating "WOW!" and "Pee Yoo".

Boots!!

(Donovan, carrying rain boots over to mommy)
Donovan: "Boooots!"
Mommy: "Do you want mommy to put the boots on?"
Dono:(nodding head)"Ah-kay"
(Mommy put boots on, Donovan satisfied)
Mommy: Do you want to put on mommy's boots?"
Dono: (nodding head) "Ah-kay"
(Mommy then helps Donovan put on boots by lifting him into said boots. Donovan happy)
Mommy: (Dashing across room to get camera) "Let mommy get a picture of you in the boots"
Dono: (signing "all done" and starting to fuss) "All done. All done" (trying to wiggle out of boots)
Mommy: (getting camera ready and taking pictures of crying boy) "Hold on just a second, stay in the boots!"
(Donovan, NOT happy)

Mommy: "Dono, want to see a picture of your self?"
(Donovan interested despite the frustration at mommy)

(Donovan very happily looking at picture of himself in boots.)
Mommy: "Can mommy take another picture of you Donovan and then you can see it?"
Dono: (nodding head happily) "Ah-kay"
Mommy: (taking picture of Donovan) "Say cheese!"
Dono: "Cheeeeeese!"

"Hockey Time"

Since nothing really exciting has happened around here recently and I haven't posted in a while, I may as well finally post about Donovan's greatest love of all...hockey. It is his passion. It is usually the first thing he talks about when he wakes up and the last thing he is doing before he goes to bed. When we are not playing hockey with him, he is watching video's of himself or other people play hockey on the computer. He plays in in our bed, he plays it in the 4 person tent we have currently pitched downstairs. He even makes his Elmo doll play it in the bath tub. He plays it with sticks and bats when his hockey sticks are not available (which is rare, we have 5). He also insists on us (and himself) wearing blues hockey apparel for at least a little time every day. He knows exactly where Tom hangs his old blues jersey and it hangs just low enough that he can snag it off the hanger and bring it out to you to tell you when you need to wear it. Tom also has a hockey hat that is almost always on someone's head, as determined by Donovan. One day Donovan spotted his own blues shirt in the hamper that he had worn the previous day and he made Tom pick it out of the dirty clothes and put it on him. That is love.

Donovan's vocabulary has really gotten a lot better within the past few weeks and he has a handful of hockey terms he now says. They include: hockey, "hockey time" (an addition in the past few days and said about 150 times a day now), stick, puck, shot, close, "missed it", my personal favorite "come on!" and goal. He will also wind up to take a shot and sometimes say "ready, set, go!" His "ready" sounds more like "wow-ee" but he pauses at all the appropriate times. I have no idea where he learned "ready, set, go" so just add it to the list of things he knows that I have no idea where they came from. Donovan has also picked up on the fact that I sometimes call his daddy "Tom" so he does too sometimes. Today, Tom worked from home so when Donovan and I went downstairs to play and he realized his daddy wasn't there he went to the bottom of the stairs and yelled up, "Tooooom! Hockey tiiime!". After about 20 rounds of that Tom made it down.

Donovan has also learned from his love of hockey that he gets a lot more cooperation from people if he takes them by the hand to do or see what he wants. He usually goes up to you, says "hand" as he offers his hand to yours and then leads you to where he wants you to go. 98% of the time he leads you to a hockey stick he wants you to use. And he is very picky about which stick you use and in what position (sitting or standing) he wants you to use it in. Tom has a full sized wooden stick "Daddy's stick" and he is not allowed to sit during the play time. I, thankfully, am. "Mommy's stick" is a small one with a yellow foam head. By far the pansiest. Once, Jenna's boyfriend Ryan was over and made the mistake of using daddy's stick. He was promptly reprimanded. He does require me to wear one hockey glove at times, but I will take that over the short period of time he insisted either Auntie Jenna or daddy wear a full helmet with mask. We have traveled with the hockey sticks to many family and friends houses... one even made it to Colorado! Donovan's preferred thing to hit is a ping pong ball. He talked so much about "pucks" that I ordered 6 plastic ones from the Internet and what does he still prefer? The ping pong ball or the practice wiffle golf balls. He will use whatever is available. Things that have served as a "puck" in the past include: an empty tack case, broken measuring tape container, roll of tape, small bottle of moisturizer, beer bottle cap and a penny.

He can recognize the Blues logo and Tom will spell "Hockey" out on the bathroom tub wall during baths and ask Donovan what it says and he replies "hockey". That is his knee-jerk word, but we still pretend it is because he can read. There is a girl with ice skates on in one of his books and he points to her every time and says "hockey". He talks a lot about watching it on the tv but watching the big boys never really holds his attention. He prefers to watch home videos of himself playing hockey or watch videos of little squirts playing hockey on the computer. I think the big boys are too fast for him to keep up. Anyways, on to the pictures. These are pics from the past couple months, all hockey related of course.

The first time he found and insisted on putting on his daddy's old blues jersey. He was so proud he had to get on the train table to show it off better.
