One of my best friends, Michelle, and her husband Jeff recently had a baby, little Logan. Ever since I told the kids she was going to have the baby (when she went to the hospital) they have both been talking about how they want to hold the "little tiny baby". Dono told me he was probably going to have to help Reese hold the baby since he was much bigger.
So this weekend we went to Michelle and Jeff's and got to snuggle on the new little guy. Donovan was so excited to hold him and was wiggling all around in anticipation as Michelle was getting ready to hand Logan over. We told him he needed to be careful and hold the baby's head up and he did ok, but was really bragging on himself about how well he did afterwards. He was loving snuggling with Logan. And it was so dang precious If the other adults had not been around I would have been boo-hooing like a baby but since they were, I only teared up and fought really hard to hold them in. It was the cutest thing.
Reese on the other hand, she was her usual mute, catatonic self when we first got there so but I knew she wanted to hold him so when Dono was done, I took her off my lap and put Logan on hers. Behold the adorableness.
I mean it really is too cute for words. Almost makes me want to have another one. Almost.
Reese did awesome. Since she was still catatonic, all she moved was her head and Logan stayed in perfect position while she held him for 10 plus minutes she did. I don't think she quite knew what to think about the whole situation. Eventually we asked her if she was done and she managed to squeak out a "yes" loud enough for a mouse to hear so we took Logan off her hands. She warmed up after that and the kids played on the outside playset they had while I got to snuggle. All in all it was a lovely visit and Logan is a lovely baby. Hopefully we will get to see them and snuggle with him again soon.

Guess who had a birthday!
This guy!
Unfortunately his birthday was yesterday, a work/school day, so we didn't get to spend the whole day spoiling him. He did get to open on present before school and then pick out what he wanted for dinner (McDonalds... fancy!) then open more presents after dinner. And we brought cookies for his class and he said that his class sang happy birthday twice since they got to have a cookie for lunch and snack.
He woke up extra early on his birthday as he was so excited. He told Tom and I different things that he could do now that he is 4. He told Tom that now he can hold Reese "a little higher" and he told me that a) he was taller/ he had grown and b) that he was going to do all the dishes for me now. BONUS! He should turn 4 more often! Well here we are on his second day of being 4 and what do you know, no dishes washed yet. Maybe he is building up to that.
This is the only "smile" he would give me the morning of his birthday with his yet to be opened present. (So sue us, we ran out of birthday wrapping).
MONSTER JAM! It has been a very monster jam birthday so far. He has gotten 4 new monster trucks and he has big plans for more. He got a 20$ bill in the mail today and he told me he was going to buy more monster trucks with it.
If you have a close eye you will notice that there are more than 4 candles on the cake. There are 9 to be exact. Donovan requested 9 specifically. He wanted to see if he had enough breath to blow them all out. For the record, he did, but it took a couple tries. It didn't help that he placed the candles himself (except for one Reese did) and he spread half of them out and 4 of them he put touching as if to make one huge torch.
I will write an "all about Donovan at 4" post soon but tonight I am going to try to get to bed at a reasonable time. We will have some party pictures in the next month as well so stay tuned!

From the mouth of Donovan
Dono: "I want to go outside daddy."
Dad: "Ok, can you go back downstairs and turn the lights out then?"
Dono: (throws head back, spoken with major attitude) "I'm really getting tired of all these things you keep asking me to do!"
Dad: "Like what?"
Dono: "Like asking me to turn these lights off!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dono: "I hurt my knee pit"
You know, the area right behind your knee.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mommy and Dono snuggling in bed right after showers:
Dono: "Mommy, your eyebrows smell good. (pause) They smell like breakfast!!!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dad: "I think it's moving past us."
Dono: "What's moving past us."
Dad: "The storm."
Dono: " (heart sinking) Oh. BUT I STILL WANT TO SLEEP IN YOUR BED!"
Just a quick one to let you know we are still here
I am really tired tonight... but not as tired as this girl after she pumps out a few sets.
I love my kids. They are just the right kind of weird.
Easter fun
What a gorgeous day! We hit the jackpot for weather this Easter and had a wonderful day all around. Only thing missing was my parents, who are returning from their vacay. Here are some of our fun Easter times.
Last night we decorated our eggs. Dono did awesome and was very gentle getting the eggs in and out of the colors. Reese, well, she was her 1 yo self. Crazy as usual.
Dono thought the eggs looked so good he ate 2 right away after he finished decorating them! He also ate the yolk with the first egg and then took a couple bites with the second and then declared that he didn't like "the yellow part." Then he told me he would like the yolk when he was 4. So next month then.
This morning the kids were up bright and early at 7. So excited for our fun day ahead.
Reese got some princess sunglasses because she only has one pair and always wears her brothers glasses, as she dances "opa style" around the house. Dono decided he wanted to try out her new glasses. What do you know, they fit him perfect.
A little before 10 we made it to Tom's parent's house where the kids (im)patiently waited for the other big kids to get there so they could do the easter egg hunt. The baskets still had their booty in them so they had to use Target bags to put the eggs in. We called them "hoosier baskets".
Some of our family friends, who have a little older children, came over and were playing with the kids in the afternoon. They went to the playground and on the way back Donovan was running with the girl, Sophia, when they tripped each other up and Dono took a face first tumble. So he finished his Easter looking like this.
And Reese finished her Easter looking like this. Hanging in her dad's car, playing, with a Natty (Natural light beer) hat on. She's classy everyone.
Zoom in on Reese's face if you can on this one. This is how she kisses us every night. |
This was the crowd that was watching all the action.
My cuties.
Is this spring?
So it is March 24th and technically spring yet here we are, in the midst of a winter snow storm. It has been snowing since this morning and it isn't predicted to stop until late tonight. The forecast is anywhere from 6-8 inches. Yikes. My lucky duck parents got out of town just in time and are enjoying the warmth of South Carolina. Must be nice. We did take advantage of the weather and went outside where Reese sweetly asked me to build her a snowman about 15 times before I finally did it. I would call this our first official snowman as the last one we did was pretty wimpy and got knocked down by a certain someone (ahem, Donovan, ahem) 5 minutes later.
In this picture I was doing silly dancing so they would smile and they would give us a nice picture. Apparently that was confusing as both of them took it as a sign to start silly dancing themselves, which they both did very well.
